3 Writing
As a writer I want ot control your mind. My desire is to pull you in and keep you in.
Pull You in- I attempt to present you with a narrative that makes you feel a part of what is happening.
EXAMPLE
The Castle Rock
She faintly heard the gunshots over the sound of the waves crashing into the jagged rocks keeping time with her racing heart. The fine simmering mist with a briny essence of salt and seaweed wrapped around her like a scarf enveloping her body.
The sea-worn jagged rocks shielded the beach from the relentless white capped waves that seemed determined to rip them out and drive them up on the beach.
She looked back and realized that two people were coming down the cliff path to the beach. They were firing at her and at the top of the path she could see the glint of the scope on the rifle being used by a third shooter. Those were the shots she was sure were the ones that had her running faster then she had ever run before.
The sand underfoot seemed determined to slow her down to a snail’s pace.
She looked ahead and let out a groan as she realized that though she might be able to climb the face of the cliff she would become a dark blue and white target against the grey streaked stone face.
She looked out to where the waves crashed violently over the jagged broken rocks and knew that her chances of getting past them were slim, but she stepped out of her shoes, ran full speed into the waves, dove and fought her way towards them. She was not sure she would make it through this barrier, but she knew the odds were better than her remaining alive on the beach.
